Prevede che se stai da un po’ in un posto,
specie se infante, o del loco natìo
pur se i parenti han detto al tempo addio
al natal continente, sia disposto

d’essere cittadin sanz’altro costo.
E se c’è chi l’auspica, grazie a Dio,
c’è pur chi sobilla l’iradiddio,
specie chi ‘l molto fumo e poco arrosto

è aduso a maneggiar. Non provo pena;
anzi, a dirla tutta, son pur d’accordo
che ‘l principio che resti al suo paese

s’usi, ma a chi va a Roma a nostre spese.
E son pronto a donare, per ricordo,
pure un baston nodoso in fondoschiena.
